Ferralium 255 round bar is also known as grade 304L, it is a high-performance low-alloy austenitic stainless steel. Ferralium 255 SS bar has 18 percent chromium content and 9.5 percent nickel content. This material is resistant to acids and chloride media at both high or low temperatures. It has excellent toughness, tensile strength, and hot/cold workability. This material offers corrosion resistance for some food processing applications and can be welded by conventional methods. The addition of molybdenum provides improved resistance to pitting corrosion from chlorides at elevated temperatures (above 140°F). For chemical service, duplex grades are slightly more susceptible than type 304 stainless steels but are generally more resistant than grades 303 and 316.
